At Pinch, every idea begins with a simple question: how can we design a moment that brings people together? With The Floor Sample, we’ve reimagined a familiar retail experience and transformed it into something entirely unexpected, an interactive food moment that lives somewhere between design, display, and discovery.
Inspired by the quiet charm of vintage furniture shops, where objects sit waiting to be noticed, The Floor Sample borrows the idea of the “floor model” and gives it a new purpose. But instead of a chair or a lamp, what guests encounter is food, placed intentionally, almost casually, as if it has always belonged there.
There’s no server announcing its presence. No formal introduction. It exists in the space, unattended by design, inviting curiosity. Guests approach slowly at first, unsure if they’re meant to interact. Then someone leans in, takes a closer look, and makes the first move. What begins as a quiet moment quickly evolves into a shared experience, people gather, observe, and ultimately participate.
This is where the ice breaks. The object becomes a conversation starter. Strangers connect over the simple act of discovery, bonded by a shared question: Is this really meant to be eaten?
Details matter. Just like in a furniture showroom, each piece comes with a “tag” but instead of dimensions or materials, it reveals the menu. It’s a subtle cue that bridges the gap between object and offering, guiding guests without disrupting the illusion.
And for those willing to fully embrace the moment, there’s a playful layer built in: the shape, the gesture, the experience itself. Yes, you can pretend it’s a cigarette while you eat it. And yes, that’s part of the point.
Because at its core, The Floor Sample isn’t just about food. It’s about choreography without instruction. It’s about creating space for spontaneity, for humor, for connection. It turns a passive display into an active encounter, and transforms a room full of individuals into a shared moment.
In a world of over-orchestrated events, sometimes the most powerful interaction is the one that feels like it wasn’t planned at all.
