Made from a single piece of stainless steel, the Water Lily Trays are the latest addition to our ever-evolving tray collection.
The process of designing a new tray can begin almost anywhere: with a material that catches our eye, an hors d’oeuvre we want to serve in a new way, or an opportunity to up-cycle older pieces and materials from our workshop.
For the Water Lily Trays, it started with a simple challenge: could we create a tray from a single sheet of stainless steel?
The steel was laser-cut into a series of petal-like forms, then carefully bent and shaped by hand to create the dimensional structure of a water lily. What begins as one completely flat surface transforms into a sculptural serving piece, with each fold giving the tray its shape and function.
The tray was designed to be lightweight enough to move through a room while creating an unexpected surface for presenting hors d’oeuvres.
Like so many of the pieces we design, the Water Lily Tray sits somewhere between service tool and sculpture, transforming a simple sheet of stainless steel into a new way to serve food.
